Sending a backup file to us
Hello there ^^ We've once stumbled on a small problem that a collab picture was erased from one's pc, which has been sent to him/her a while before. The person before him/her had some troubles uploading it again and asked if we could send it to the next person because we had a backup file, but he/she had sent the backup file with YouSendIt to our mail dacollab@gmail.com. The problem is, YSI links expire within 7 days, and it had been more then 7 days ago when the person sent the backup file. So our request is to send your backup file just to dacollab@gmail.com, or, if you don't know how to attach a file to your mail, send it with a link that doesn't expire, like [link] thnx!

Hmm... I guess some people won't ever really cooperate in this project will they?
Anyway, I haven't recieved any new mails anymore
I know that there are still people who'd love to participate in this project and can't wait till their turn is there, but it's no use for me to keep telling everyone the same, to send me and the participant after you a mail with the new picture.
This is the last time I do this, if I don't recieve any reply in 2 weeks, I'll only update when I recieve one. which means the project might take a veeeery long time to finish.
so for the last time: the next due date is 18th February 2006

also, we have a small problem which i didn't know before.
megaupload automatically deletes the file if the link is not in use... and... since i don't download the file all the time, a picture is now gone. *Hiasobi sent me a mail asking me to send the file to her, since ~Miyavimaru deleted the file after she sent the mail. Anyway, I'm not sure how to fix this problem, but I will speak to ~dominique871 about it when i get the chance.

OMGGGG Soooo sorry for this super late update x___x;;;
things have been pretty tough for me lately, so I couldn't update
Anyway, I had hoped the collab would just continue, but looking at the mailbox, only once a mail has been sent.... >__>;
So... or you people have finished the picture and sent it to the next person, without sending it to the udcp mail, or you are just like it was before and everything has stopped.
kind of annoying no? that we keep telling you this stuff, but nothing happens with it...
oh well...
I will just start all over, 2 weeks for all the 7th participants.
let's see if we're done or not
so... the next due date is 4th February 2006

UPDATE 1st December 2005
ARGH another late update, really truly so sorry!! It's been a nightmare for me to log onto dA with my snail-like fragile connection that threatens to disconnect me every 5 minutes or so.

Anyways ---- the next due date is 12th December 2005 for all the 7th participant in each group!

We cannot stress enough how important it is that you finish it ON TIME. And if you need an extension LET US KNOW. It's really important you maintain contact with us with progress reports.


How are the groups managing at the moment?
Group A: is in the safe mode, the 7th person ( *RuuiEyvm ) is busy with the picture at the moment.
Group B: is behind by one person, the 6th person ( *Hiasobi ) is busy with the picture at the moment.
Group C: is behind by two people. ~tatsouri , we need to know if you have received the file from ~Mystic-Moogle . Could you please leave a comment / note to let us know how you are doing?
Group D: is behind by 3 people. The 4th person ( =Lilithia ) has been moved to the bottom of the list, so the file will currently be sent to the 5th person (~1-R ).
Group E: is behind by 3 people, but the 4th person ( ~maskofmemories )has asked for an extension.
Group F: is behind by 3 people, but the 4th person (~Kitsunehime ) has asked for extension.
Group G: is behind by 3 people, but there were some problems with the 3rd person, ( =KingdomKeySora ) which made the group slow down. The 4th person ( ~AngLSuzuka ) is busy with the picture now.

ARRGGHH People!! PLEASE if you have completed your piece, LET US KNOW.

It's not that hard to drop a note or email with your progress report. It's such a nightmare to chase after you. If you are LEAVING DA or being out of contact for a period of time, LET US KNOW. It's very inconvenient to the deviant before you if he/she is unable to contact you, and also unfair to the deviant after you who is patiently waiting for his/her turn.

Anyways, due date is up. The next date for all the fifth people in the group is 14th November. Now, I know most of you haven't got the files yet. It's very aggravating, and we're currently still trying to round up those people who haven't completed. Since so many people are still on the pending list, a few extensions might have to be given out. I'll update with that soon.

So far, thanks for all the good work!!! Keep it up!! It's encouraging to see so many deviants working well together.

Don't forget - you are ALLOWED to post up your individual image in your gallery if you like. Just as long as you don't upload the entire group work, it's fine for you to put up your own work in your own gallery.

UPDATE 2nd SEPTEMBER 2005

Whooottt!!!!! Calculations are done, everything is smooth - here goes.

Everyone MUST read this.

To make things more efficient, we will be breaking this collab up into groups. There will be 5 groups with 24 people and two groups with 25 people. (Uneven numbers. X_x)

Anyways, here is how we have decided it will go. The 7 groups will all begin their collabs simultaneously. This means that we will have 7 different projects all happening at the same time. Each collab will last approximately a year, give or take extensions, mishaps and all that jazz.

At the end, we *might or might not* compile it all into one pic, depending on the size of each pic and the varied compositions. If we do not compile it, it will still be featured as a collab and whoopie, we might even have cookies.

Anyways, here's how it is - the first name in each individual group will start work on the picture, and each person will have a maximum of two weeks to complete his/her pic and pass it on to the next person on the list. When it reaches the end of the list, the last person will forward the complete picture to me.

Things to take note of :

If possible, work on your picture individually - then paste it inside the .PSD file as a single individual layer, where you can then play with the background, interface or any other elements. Remember to resize your picture before placing it in - we don't want to end up with a terabyte something file size.

The picture should be forwarded as a .PSD file, with your image on an individual layer with your NAME on it. (Your layer should be named with your name .. ahaha... get it..?)

You can write your name beside your piece on the whole picture to show your identity. Y'know...creative signatures. *wink wink*

A backup of the .PSD *must* be sent to either ~dominique871 or =Eadwine after every turn, just in case something bad happens.

You must also report to either ~dominique871 or =Eadwine or send a note to this club each time you finish your picture, wheter it be before or after two weeks. However, we will automatically check up on you after two weeks to make sure you have done your part.

If you are unable to work in .PSD format, save your image as a .JPEG and send it to us. We will help you compile it into a .PSD format to forward to the next person.

There will be no theme for this - just do whatever your heart feels like doing. Freedom of expression!

You can discuss with your neighbours to do a 'mini collab'. maybe you might like to have your pictures interacting with each other. Go ahead! It's all about creativity.

We are mulling over every single suggestion we get, so rest assured that we are considering all suggestions as to how to handle this project. We will let all of you know as soon as we decide on the most efficient and best way to get this done. Keep your eyes peeled! And keep those names coming!

UPDATE 29 AUGUST 2005

Hello all!!! Me, and have decided to open this new account for the Ultimate DeviantArt Collaboration of Doom!!

This is because I really don't want to boost the pageviews on my normal account for reasons other than my art. Also, it would be much easier to have an account we both can access and manage.

So, we would like for all participants to please add this club to your DevWatch, so you can keep in track of any updates.

Also, we will fav any promotional artwork that anyone should do for this project.
We would also love if anyone should volunteer to make an avatar and / or ID for this account.

We are currently analyzing various solutions to making this as efficient as possible, and we will keep all of you updated.

Another problem that has been cropping up is the issue of the length this will take. I have had a few suggestions from various people about this.
~BlazeRuby suggested that we break this up into different groups and carry on multiple projects at the same time, which will result in a few different images which will be compiled together into one large image at the end.
~Shezael suggested that it be broken into two groups and I start with two images facing both ways so the image will come together facing each other in the end. This would be a problem though, as we would not know the difference in size of the two images in the end.
A few other deviants suggested that the time limit of two weeks be shortened to at least 5 days.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions???? Which way would you prefer to work? Please let me know any suggestions, or you can also tell your ideas to =Eadwine

Another issue is the format of the image.
*animetayl suggested to create your own image at 300 dpi on a separate file, and then copy/paste it onto the collaboration, resize only that layer if required, and then add in necessary things like lighting, shadow, background interference, etc without resizing the whole picture. This would mean that the images would be passed on as .PSD format and I will ultimately save it as a JPEG right at the very end.

Therefore I would like to ask - what programs would you all be using? It would be good if you all were using Photoshop / Painter / Open Canvas as all those programs have a function to save as .PSD. Please respond to this journal if you are UNABLE to work in a .PSD format.

If you are unable to work in .PSD format, you will have to save your piece as a JPEG and send it to either ~dominique871 or =Eadwine and we will convert it into a .PSD for you so you can pass on the image to the next person.
We will NOT pass on the image for you - we want you to interact among yourselves. You may have discussions with your neighbours, you might even want to have a corresponding piece among yourselves, it's all up to you.

Another issue is that - after each person has completed their piece, they *must* let either ~dominique871 or =Eadwine know so that we can keep in track of your progress. As well as sending the piece onto the next person on the list, it would also be good to send me a backup copy, just in case something happens.

Keep your eyes peeled and we will let you know on any more updates.

Edit : Well, since there is such a large amount of people in on this thing, I just thought I'd let you all know something.
As you all know, everyone has 2 weeks to work on it. However, what I failed to state is that - if you finish it before 2 weeks, please feel free to pass it on to the next person. If you manage to add in your contribution in one day, then so pass it on immediately after. The maximum time you will be granted to work on it is 2 weeks, however time extensions will be granted to those who desperately need it.
This is because - judging from the amount of participants already - if everyone took exactly two weeks or more this whole thing would take about 2 years to complete!! X__X We don't want that! So yea, the faster you can finish your piece, the better. Maximum is 2 weeks, folks!


Another thing, for those of you who are plugging this into your journal, please remove the names list. If people want to see it, send them over to this journal. This is because I found it got very confusing if many people put the list on their journal at the same time, and it makes it hard for me whenever I update the list.

PLEASE REMOVE THE NAME LIST FROM YOUR JOURNAL. You may keep this whole...promotional...journal there, but only remove THE LIST ONLY.
